A handsome, reclaimed, Victorian cast iron combination fire. The large fire has an ornate design, with pretty leaves and fruit along the crossbar and decorative motifs in each corner. The smoke hood has fluting and an urn with wheat and fruit. There is an acorn and leaf design that runs down each of the legs. The fire has a fire brick, grill and front bars. Please note the front bars are not a tight fit and do move when touched. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a nice finish. The smoke flap is a heavy metal replacement. At present, with this smoke flap, the fire is suitable for decorative use only as it cannot be removed when in-situ. If you would like to use the fire then the smoke flap must be adapted or another made for you. Please let us know if you intend to use the fire and we can discuss the options with you. The work will be included in the price of the fire.
The fire is in solid condition with some signs of age and wear, as expected. The iron has some casting marks and pitting, especially to the mantel and crossbar. There is residue concrete under the mantel on the back face of the fire. There is a modern screw seen on the left hand foot, sprayed black. This has been used to secure the fires back. The fire brick will need some further fixing cement as there are some gaps round the edges. The back of the fire has surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire is of a good size, is very heavy and its ornate appearance would make it a fantastic period feature in a home.
