A very pretty, decorative, Victorian cast iron combination fire. The fire is of a fantastic size, ideal for both bedroom or living room and has a solid mantel and arched fire opening. The item is heavily decorated with columns on each leg, topped with Adam style urns. The crossbar has repeating flower patterns. The arched opening has two delicate borders, framing the decorative frontbars. The fire has a lacquered finish giving the iron an attractive burnished, silvery finish. The fire could be blacked and polished by purchaser if a more traditional look is prefered. The fire has a clear RD number on the back. The RD number, 116419, dates the fire to 1888. The fire is in very good antique condition and has has no damage or restoration. The fixing lugs to the sides and at the back of the mantel are present and intact. The fire brick looks almost unused and is very solid, there is, however, a small chip to one bottom corner, please see pictures for details. The fire has some slight signs of use, consistent with age. The iron has some tarnish and light surface rust in areas. There is some pitting, scratches and casting marks. The back has surface rust as expected. The fire is a beautiful, untouched, example of Victorian design and the detail is of a fine quality. A solid, useable and very stylish fire, ideal for a period or modern property.
