A very pretty, original, reclaimed petite Georgian hob grate fire insert. The hob grate has a very ornate appearance with a flower and acanthus leaves that decorate the arch around the fire opening and on the back plate within the opening. The hob grate has the traditional warming plates on either side of the fire opening and there are decorative designs below each warming plate. The hob grate has retained its curved front bars and there is a pretty flower design at the bottom of them. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a nice finish. The back of the hob grate has the faint outline of a registered design kite mark but it is unreadable now.
The hob grate is in good condition with some signs of use and age, commensurate with its considerable age. The sides of the hob grate have some small notches. The iron has some casting marks, pitting and roughness. The grill and the back of the hob grate have some surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The hob grate is a very fine example of Georgian design and is of a nice size for a bedroom or smaller reception room. The hob grate is the perfect item for adding period character and charm to a fireplace.
