A large, elegant, reclaimed cast iron fire surround dating to the Edwardian period, C.1900. The fire surround has a simple and pretty design, typical of the era, with a flower and leaf circle and ribbons along the crossbar. There is simple moulding around the fire opening. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a good finish. There are two fixing lugs at the back of the mantel, for sinking into the wall and there is a fixing lug on the left hand side (when looking at the surround) under the mantel. The right hand lug was broken and has been replaced with a modern metal fixing tab so the surround can be attached to the wall. The surround is in good antique condition with some small signs of use and age. The iron has some casting marks, indentations and pitting. The back of the surround has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is of a nice size and could be paired with a wood burner or a fire basket. The fire surround's simple and classic design would suit both period and modern interiors and would make an elegant feature for a fireplace.
