A beautiful reclaimed cast iron fire surround dating to the Edwardian period. The surround has a very elegant design, typical of the era, with fluting under the mantel and a panel in the centre of the crossbar. On either side of the panel are pretty flowers and swags. There are decorative reeded mouldings around the fire opening. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a good finish. The fire surround has a fixing lug on each side, under the mantel, for fixing the surround to the wall.
The fire surround is in good antique condition with some signs of use and age, as expected. The iron has some small knocks, especially to the mantel edges. The iron has some scratches and there are some casting marks and pitting. The mantel fixing screws do not sit totally flush with the mantel and there are some screw holes in the mantel. The back has surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is of a good size and could be paired with a wood burner or a fire basket. The fire surround is a lovely example of Edwardian design and it would make a fantastic period feature for a home.
