A very large and graceful reclaimed satinwood fire surround. The fire surround has an elegant period design with hand carved detail and gesso. The surround has pretty gesso detailing on the crossbar, with fluting on either side and gesso leaves on the legs. The fire surround has large corbels under the mantel and elegantly shaped legs. There is a hand carved egg and dart style border around the fire opening. The wood has been waxed at some point as there is some wax residue left, however the surround has staining, marks and discolouration and you will need to sand the surround further and then finish to suit, perhaps with paint or wax.
The fire surround is in solid reclaimed condition with some signs of age and wear, as expected of antique items. The gesso is coming away in places. There are some small knocks and chips in the wood and there is a wood knot that has split in one of the fluted areas. The wood has stains, discolouration and marks and there is some water staining on the mantel. The back left hand corner of the mantel (when looking at the surround) has had a notch cut out of it. The back edge of the mantel has some residue plaster or concrete on it. Please see pictures for condition details. The surround is of a very good size and its very attractive appearance would make it a stunning feature for a fireplace.
