A stunning, very large, carved pine antique shelving unit dating to C.1895. The cupboard is of a very good size, ideal for a living or dining room or perhaps a shop / bar or restaurant. The shelving unit consists of 9 adjustable shelves at the top, set in to a large compartment and two thinner side compartments. The back of the shelving unit has panel detailing and the shelves and paneled detailing have been painted in a light green. The base of the unit has 3 cupboard sections, one on either side and a double cupboard in the centre. The shelving unit has ornate carved detailing, with a decorative top piece with repeated leaf designs. There are neo-classical columns, with reeded detailing, on each side of the top shelves and there is a carved acanthus leaf edge above the cupboard doors. The shelving unit is in good antique condition with some wear and light damage due to age. One side has some pencil moulding missing. The unit has some small knocks, chips and marks and there is some slight colour variation and paint residue in areas. One of the cupboard doors has a split but it is stable and useable and there is wear to the carved mouldings. The left hand cupboard base is missing and the right hand cupboard shelf is slightly too big and will need some adjusting. Some of the hanging hooks are missing on the front of the shelves. There are some small holes to the paneled back. Please see pictures for condition details. The shelving unit is a very fine example of late Victorian design and its size is unusual. The shelving unit could be ideal for use in a home library, or for displaying antiques or decor items. The shelving unit is a very attractive, beautifully made and useful statement piece of furniture.
