M1478 TWO PAIRS OF DECORATIVE ANTIQUE GOTHIC IRON STRAP HINGES C.1880

Code: M1478

SOLD

Two pairs of stunning decorative Gothic iron door strap hinges. The handmade hinges dating to C.1880 are very rare and have an exceptional design, each with 3 arms with clover finials, brass screws and beautiful brass florets. The strap hinges would be perfectly suited to a large oak church or cottage door and have a double hinge with one section that attaches to the door and one section that attaches to the door frame. The iron has a black paint finish and the brass is polished in areas. The hinges are in very good condition with some small signs of age, as expected of reclaimed antiques. There are some very small knocks and marks from age. Some light tarnish and natural discolouration to the brass. The original screws have some rust and some may be slightly damaged and therefore unusable and so purchaser may have to source some more. Please see pictures for condition details. The strap hinges are a wonderful example of Victorian Gothic design and would certainly add period character to a door.

Height of strap 58.5cm

Height of hinge piece that attaches to door 12.5cm
