Code: M1996
A set of stunning decorative reclaimed antique fire tiles. The set comprises of two brown and green border tiles with raised flower detail, four square blue flower tiles with leaves, 2 beautiful large tiles with a lemon design, 8 very thin blue tiles with a fantastic colour, 6 thin brown tiles (slightly wider than the blue tiles) and two brown border tiles, please see pictures for configuration. Most of the tiles were from the same fire and the flower tiles have a registered design number RD13941 dating them to 1884. The beautiful lemon tiles have a dating number RD 38165, dating them to 1901 and "Derwent Foundry Co Derby". The Derwent Foundry had tiles made for them for their fires by George Wooliscroft who used a transfer print method that was then painted over for depth and colour. Both the lemon and flower tiles have the same makers stamp.
The tiles are original antiques and have some signs of age and some damage, as expected of reclaimed items. One of the large lemon tiles, a square flower tile and 4 thin blue tiles have repairs to breaks. The cracks can be seen but the tiles have been glued solidly and are useable as long as handled carefully. There are some small knocks and chips to the corners and edges. There is some residue concrete or plaster of paris on the back of some tiles. The tile glaze has some crazing. There are some residue smoke marks and the thin brown tiles have some paint or plaster on them. The top brown tiles have been painted over and the paint is flaking away and you may be able to remove this carefully. Please see pictures for condition details. The tiles have a striking and unusual design and they are very desirable. The tiles are perfect for adding character to a cast iron tiled fire or to add character and charm to a home project.
