A lovely, petite, Georgian cast iron hob grate suited mainly for decorative purposes. The hob grate has wonderful features with shell and leaf detailing on the front face. The hob grate has thin warming shoulders on either side of the grate with a decorative roped border. The hob grate has a small, deep grill and the original, rounded, front bars are present. The hob grate has the number 2 and SMITH cast in to the shoulder of each side, presumably referring to the items maker. The iron has been burnished and lacquered giving an attractive silvery / black finish. The hob grate is antique and therefore has some signs of use and wear, consistent with age. The back plate swings slightly. We can secure the back plate with wire, free of charge, please let us know at time of purchase if you require this service. The age of the item makes it suited for decorative purposes with perhaps occasional use. There is some surface rust to the back and very small areas of surface rust to the front face. Some knocks, scratches and casting marks can be seen. One front edge has a small knock, please see pictures for details.
