A reclaimed cast iron fire basket and reclaimed cast iron fire dogs. The basket has a traditional appearance with bars that run around each side the basket, some of which have a barley twist detail. The basket has hook end horns / bars that are designed to fit on to the fire dog legs. The fire dogs have a lovely appearance with a "swans neck" design and large ball finials. The front part of the grill is removeable but the back bars are not. The fire basket and dogs have been blacked and polished and have a good finish. The basket and fire dogs are reclaimed and do have some signs of use and some damage. The grill has some twisting and raising of the bars, mainly to the back bars that are not removeable. Some bars are worn and one has a break but the grill is stable and useable. The iron has some pitting and knocks. The fire dogs have some knocks and chips to the finish, especially the ball finials and legs where the basket rests. Please see pictures for condition details. The set would suit a cottage or period home and purchaser could add a cast iron fire back if desired. The fire basket and fire dogs complement each other very well and have a great traditional look, making them desireable items that would add character to a fireplace.
