A very nice, reclaimed, reproduction cast iron fire back. The fire back is a reproduction of Elizabethan designs. The fire back has the date of the Spanish Armada, 1588, and is decorated in reference to this with two large anchors and rope borders around the top. There are period style roses and fleur-de-lys surrounding the anchors. The top of the fire back has an arched shape. The fire back is thick and heavy and is ideal for use in a fireplace and paired with a fire basket. The cast iron has been blacked and polished and has a nice finish. The fire back is reclaimed and has some signs of use and wear, as expected. There are some knocks and scratches. There is some pitting and some casting marks. The back has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire back is of an interesting design and it would add great character to a fireplace.
