An extremely large, solid and heavy, reclaimed reproduction cast iron fire back. The fire back has an attractive look, copying the period designs of George III era. The fire back has an attractive arched top and there is a rope style border around the outside edge. The arch has the date 1788 which refers to the date the design of the fire back has been reproduced from. There are two anchors cast in to the main body of the fire back along with grapes, Tudor roses and flur-de-lys, all of which were symbols of hope. The fire back is perfect for pairing with a large fire basket or grate or for decorative purposes. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a lovely finish. PLEASE NOTE: the fire back is extremely heavy, approx 140kg, and is for COLLECTION ONLY and you will need a suitable vehicle for transportation. The fire back is reclaimed and therefore has some slight signs of use and wear. There are some small casting marks and scratches and there is some surface rust to the back and a small amount to the sides, as expected. The fire back has a fantastic design and it is of a rare size and a very desirable item.
