A stunning Victorian cast iron combination fire made by the Carron Foundry near Falkirk. The fire has an elegant and unusual design with an integrated mirror attached to the top of the mantel. An ideal statement piece in a living or dining room, the fire has elaborate detailing featuring bows, swags, flowers and urns, typical of the era and of the Adam style. The fire has a fantastic Brighton Pavilion style smoke hood and the fire opening has a pretty repeating border. The legs are thick and solid. The fire has the original top plate, burning grill and decorative front bars. The mantel has a purpose built slot for the attractive mirror to sit upon and is bolted to the fire from behind. The mirror has beveled glass and an ornately decorated top. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a lovely finish. The back of the fire and mirror have the foundry stamps and RD numbers to date the design. The back of the fire has RD99704, dating the fire to 1884. The mirrors registered design number is RD100657. The fire and mirror both have lugs for attaching and securing to the wall. The fire is in very good antique condition with some light signs of use and wear as expected of reclaimed items. There is a very small chip to the bottom right hand corner of the mirror glass. There are some light scratches and casting marks to the iron. The back of the fire has some surface rust. There is a small gap between the top plate and the back of the fire. The fire is a stunning example of Victorian design and the addition of the mirror makes it an unusual and attractive decor piece. A desirable, usable and interesting fire.
