A very pretty Victorian cast iron combination fireplace, suitable for a bedroom or smaller reception room. The fire has a fantastic appearance with delicate repeating wheat sheaf style design across the whole front of the fire and creating a border along the outer edge. There is a thinner border around the fire opening and a very pretty canopy smoke hood with slight serpentine edge. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a lovely finish. The fire has retained its original fixing lugs, front bars and grill. The fixing lugs are quite unusual and are designed to be chased in to the wall and plastered over. There is a registered design number on the back of the fire and although the last number is faint we believe it to be RD109324, dating the fire to 1888. The fire has had a large break to the mantel, however it has been repaired to a very high standard and is not particularly noticeable. The fire will need to be handled with care when carrying and fitting. The fire brick has a small chip at the top and therefore does not fit flush with the smoke flap in one corner. The back has surface rust as expected.  Ideal for a period property, the fire is a very pretty and desirable item and a very fine example of Victorian design.
