A very nice, reclaimed, Victorian cast iron combination fire. The fire is of a fine quality and the casting is very good. The fire was made by Yates Haywood & Co of Rotherham and London. Yates Haywood & Co were quality makers of cast iron fires and were at the Great Exhibition of 1851 where they won an award for stove grates. The fires design is in the style of the mid-Victorian era and can probably be dated to this period. The fire has the makers name under the mantel and there is a model name on the smoke flap but it is now not clearly readable. The fire has a fantastic design with an arched fire opening, surrounded by decorative borders featuring pretty flowers. The crossbar has a repeating circular design with flowers and on each side there is a larger circle with intricate patterns inside. A particular feature of the fire is the baffle smoke plate with ornate designs and the fire has retained its original, decorative, concrete fire back and curved front bars. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a good finish. The fire is in very good condition with some small signs of wear and some light damage, as expected of reclaimed antique items. The fire has some casting marks, small knocks, pitting and scratches. The original fixing lugs were broken and they have been replaced with slim metal fixing plates. The left hand front corner of the mantel (when looking at the fire) has been well repaired but a crack is still visible. The back has surface rust. The concrete fire back has some small knocks and chips. The mantel screws do not sit completely flush on the top of the mantel. Please see pictures for condition details. The combination fire has a fantastic look and is made by an acclaimed Victorian fire manufacturer. The fire is a lovely example of Victorian style and will add great character to a fireplace.
