A large handsome, reclaimed, Victorian cast iron combination fire. The fire is of a good size, ideal for a reception room or bedroom and has a lovely design, typical of the era. The fire has an Adam style design with urns and leaves along the cross bar and a smaller, similar design at the top of each leg. The fire has a very decorative smoke hood with a flower within a circular border and pretty flowers on either side of it. The fire has shaped front bars and there is further decorative detailing above the fire back. There are two fixing lugs, one on either side, under the mantel to allow the fire to be fixed to the wall. The back of the fire has a registered design number, RD 4862, dating the fire to 1884. The iron has been blacked and polished. The fire is in solid antique condition with some signs of age and damage, as expected. The mantel needed some repairs to fix it back on to the fire and has been fixed with new screws and nuts. Extra screws have been added to the mantel, that are visible, to secure the mantel in place. The fire back has cracks, breaks through it and chips to the edges but it is stable within the fire. The iron has some scratches, marks and some casting marks and pitting. There is a slight gap on either side of the front bars where they do not sit entirely flush with the brackets that hold them and the bracket edges have some thin cracks and uneven edges. The back has surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire is a fantastic ornate item, highlighting lovely Victorian design. The fire would be an ideal showpiece for a home.
