Code: FC0259
Dimensions:
A large and elegant, reclaimed, Art Nouveau antique tiled cast iron combination fire. The fire is very heavy and solid and of a good size for a living or dining room. The fire has a very pretty design, typical of the era, with flowers, a medallion and leaves along the cross bar. The fire has a decorative smoke hood with a beautiful flower and leaves. There is a moulded border than runs along the crossbar and down the legs. On each side of the fire opening there are attractive antique tiles with four dark red and one stylised flower tile that sits in the centre of each row of 5 tiles. The fire has shaped front bars and an ash pan cover. The grill and fire brick is present. The original top plate was missing and we have supplied a wooden top plate, sprayed black. The fire CANNOT BE USED FOR BURNING with the wooden top plate and is only suited to decorative use at present. We can make a metal top plate for an EXTRA CHARGE, so the fire can be used. Please contact us for details and a quote. There is a fixing lug on each side, under the mantel, for fixings for attaching the fire to the wall.
The combination fire is in solid condition with some signs of age and some repaired damage, as expected. The left hand foot had a break which has been repaired. The break has been repaired with a metal plate, screws and filler and the repair is solid. The crack and screws can be seen but the filler is black to help hide the repair. The metal fixing plate can be seen at the back of the fire. The iron has some pitting and casting marks. The tiles have some chips, scratches, knocks and stains. The tile enamel has crazing. There is a thin crack to the front of the grill. The fire brick is cracked but it is stable. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire is a fine example of Art Nouveau design, perfect for a period home, and it would make a very nice feature in a fireplace.
