Code: FC0270
Dimensions:
A very fine quality reclaimed Victorian cast iron combination fire, made by the Falkirk foundry. The fire has an ornate design, typical of the era, with flower medallions and diamond patterns along the cross bar and triangular panels with leaves and berries. The fire has arched decorative borders and the top plate has a pretty motif on it. The fire retains its curved front bars and it has a fire brick with nice detailing. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a nice finish. The fire has a fixing lug on each side, under the mantel, for fixings for attaching the fire to the wall. There is a tab at the bottom of each foot, design to be sunk into the hearth. The back of the fire has Falkirk, the foundry name, cast into it.
The fire is in good antique condition with some signs of age and some repaired damage, as expected of reclaimed items. The iron has some casting marks, especially to the mantel front edge and some pitting. The right hand side of the mantel was damaged and has been repaired to a high standard with filler and metal securing plates under the mantel. The mantel has some light irregularity to the shape because of the repair but it is strong and the securing plates are only visible if looking under the mantel. The fire brick has some slight pitting. The back has surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire is a very fine example of Victorian design, it is of the ideal size for a reception room or larger bedroom and it would add great character to a fireplace.
