A fantastic, decorative, original Georgian cast iron hob grate fire insert. The hob grate has fantastic period detailing and is very ornate, with large scrolling designs, in relief, in each top corner and acanthus leaves. There is a border that runs along the top and down the legs of the hob grate. The fire opening has reeded detailing on each side and the fire retains its original curved front bars. The smoke flap is present and it is wired so it can open and shut. The iron has been blacked and polished. The hob grate is of an ideal size for a living or dining room or could be used for decorative purposes in a bedroom. The fire is in solid antique condition, with some signs of use and wear, as expected. There are some scratches, pitting and marks to the iron. There are some areas to the front of the fire with a rougher, uneven finish. There are some holes to the sides of the fire opening, where bolts were perhaps placed previously. The metal top plate is missing. The back has surface rust, as expected. The fire brick has some chips but it is in good solid condition. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire has a fantastic appearance and would make a wonderful statement within a period home. The hob grate is a nice antique fire and the lovely design and its good size makes it a very desirable item.
