A decorative, original, hob grate fire, likely to date to the Georgian era. The hob grate has an ornate design with heavily patterned legs featuring repeated designs with various types of flower and leaves. The centre of the hob grate has a crown and feathers and crowns on either side. The hob grate top has the traditional flat warming plates on either side of the fire opening, with a decorative rope edge around them. The top of the hob grate has two large fluted, curved, fire back plates, attached one on either side. The opening for the grill is curved and there are three front bars. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a nice finish. The hob grate is in solid condition with some signs of age and light damage, as expected. The iron has some knocks, scratches, casting marks and pitting. There is a crack to the iron on the left hand side of the warming plate, at the edge (picture 4). The back of the hob grate has surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The hob grate is a wonderful example of Georgian design and is of a nice size for a reception room or larger bedroom. The hob grate is the perfect item for adding period character to a fireplace.
