SOLD

A pretty, reclaimed, cast iron tiled fire insert for some refurbishment. The fire insert is likely to date to the late Victorian / Early Edwardian period C.1900, and has a very pretty design, typical of the era. The insert has a shield and acanthus leaves on the shaped smoke hood. The outer edges of the fire have a delicate border. The fire insert is fitted with antique tiles, 5 on either side of the opening. The tiles have an Adam style design with bows, ribbons and medallions in light green on a cream background. The insert retains its original front bars and has been paired with an ash pan cover of the period and fire stool. The fire insert comes with a new fire back. The fire insert and back are SOLD AS SEEN and the insert is in need of some refurbishment. There are some small gaps between the top of the smoke hood and fire sides. The smoke hood has been attached using new bolts that can be seen from the back of the fire. The iron has been polished or painted and there is some chipping, flaking and surface rust so purchaser will need to strip and re-finish the fire. The concrete fire back is unpainted. The tiles have some smoke and glue residue and will need some further cleaning. There are some knocks to the tiles and some crazing to the tile enamel. The back of the fire insert and fire stool have surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire insert has a very nice traditional appearance and once refurbished it will make a lovely feature in a period home.
