A very pretty reclaimed cast iron fire insert likely to date to the mid-Victorian period, paired with a decorative Victorian pine fire surround. The insert has a lovely design, typical of the era, with an arched border featuring a repeated small circular pattern that also features further into the arch. The smoke flap has a leaf design and the insert retains the original front bars with decorative finial. The cast iron insert has been paired with an ornate pine fire surround. The surround has raised and fielded panels along the cross bar and down the legs and there are diamond shapes carved in to each of the top corners. The fire insert is of a petite size, ideal for decorative purposes in a bedroom or for a smaller reception room.
The insert and surround are in good antique condition with some character signs of age. The insert has some repaired damage and signs of age. There are some small knocks and chips to the iron and some casting marks. The fire has had some damage to the bottom of the fire cheeks where they have split. The splits can be seen when looking into the grill area. The splits have been braced with some metal brackets at the back. The fire brick has some small knocks and chips. The fire surround has some chips and the back of the mantel has some splits and knocks. The surround has had some filler applied to small holes. The feet have some scuffs. The pine has some discolouration and darker areas. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire has a very nice design which is delicate and pretty, suiting many interiors. The fire insert and surround would be ideal for adding character to a fireplace.
