FI0030 AN ANTIQUE VICTORIAN CAST IRON BEDROOM FIRE INSERT
Dimensions:W: 45.5cm (17.9")H: 86cm (33.9")
A petite cast iron Victorian fire insert ideal for a bedroom or small reception room. The insert is of a simple and classic design with a repeating border around the arched fire opening. The fire has curved front bars and a beautiful decorative piece below with cast acanthus leaves. The fire has a top plate with a similar acanthus leaf pattern. The fire has a solid concrete back and grill for burning. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a rich colour and finish. The back of the fire insert is placed within the chimney breast or opening and the insert can be paired with a fire surround. The back of the fire has a clear kite date mark. The number at the top of the mark represents the day of the month the fire was made, the letter U is the year and H the month. The fire insert therefore dates to 29th April 1874. The fire is in good condition but has had some repairs due to age. The front of the fire has some very small casting marks and scratches. The back of the fire has had some repairs and new bolts are visible. The top plate is a replacement of the period that is in keeping with the fire but is slightly small and there is a small gap between the plate and the fire. The back has surface rust as expected. The fire insert has a classic design that would be ideal for a period property and would work well with many types of fire surround.
