A very pretty early Victorian, horseshoe style antique fire insert suitable for living, dining room or a larger bedroom. There are 2 fires available, SOLD SEPARATELY, please state whether you wish to buy A or B or both upon purchase, on a first come first served basis. Fire A is slightly wider than fire B. The insert design is very pretty with a horseshoe style shape around the oval fire opening and attractive shell design fire back. There is a delicate scrolling leaf pattern around the insert. Each fire has the original, shaped, front bars. The fires have kite dating marks and although difficult to read the fires appear to date to 25th November 1854. Both fires have a burnished and lacquered finish. The insert is designed to be paired with a surround to suit. The fires are in very good usable antique condition. Both fires have the original smoke flaps but one fire is missing the metal ratchet arm to raise the smoke flap when a fire is lit. If the fire is for use, rather than decorative purposes, please inform us and we can provide a metal bar to raise the smoke flap. There are some slight marks and scratches and some casting marks as expected of antique items. The back of the inserts have surface rust. Some small repairs to the front bars can be seen. The inserts have a wonderful design that would suit a period property and are in excellent antique condition making them very desirable.
