A very handsome, reclaimed, early Victorian cast iron fire insert with brass trim. The fire insert is very large and is of the ideal size for a living or dining room. The insert has a fantastic appearance with much period charm. The fire has a large arched opening that is surrounded by a decorative brass trim with twist detailing. The fire has retained its original curved front bars that have a pretty scrolling detail on either side and decorative finials. The fire insert has a large concrete fire back and top plate. The iron has been blacked and polished and the brass trim has a good colour. The fire has a registered design kite mark and although it is now unreadable we can date the fire to pre 1884, when the dating system changed. The insert is in very good antique condition but has some slight signs of use and wear. The fire has some small marks, scratches and knocks. The back has surface rust, as expected. The top of the fire brick has a small crack. Some slight tarnish to the grill from use. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire is a fantastic example of elegant Victorian design and it would be perfectly placed in a period home.
