SOLD

A rare and very beautiful, original, late Georgian / early Victorian tiled cast iron fire insert. The fire insert has an unusual and delightful design and is in very good antique condition. The insert has 12 fantastic tiles with a mosaic design featuring leaves and a central star. The design is clear and the colours are bright. Surrounding the tiles, the cast iron has an interesting design with reeded detailing and square sections, complimenting the mosaic tiles. The fire has very interesting front bars with the same reeded detail and scrolls or waves. The fire has a barrel shaped concrete fire back and the grill is of a semi -circular shape. The fire insert could be paired with a pine fire surround to complete the look. We have pine surrounds available for sale separately, please contact us to see if we have any to fit the insert or see our other listings for details. The fire insert is in very good condition, especially due to its considerable age, however there are some small signs of use and wear, as expected. The concrete fire back has some cracks but it is sturdy and stable. The tiles are in good condition with no breaks or cracks. The tiles do have some small black marks in the corners and edges that may improve with cleaning and some slight crazing to the tile glaze. The back has some surface rust and the band holding the concrete back is loose but the back is stable. There is currently a slight gap between the concrete back and the cast iron. The back may perhaps need some re-positioning or the gaps filling with fire cement when fitted. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire insert is a stunning example of late Georgian / very early Victorian design and it is sure to make a beautiful showpiece in a period or modern home.

Both measurements are included below. Please contact us of you need any further information about this.
