A very pretty, original, Georgian hob grate fire insert. The hob grate has an ornate design with arched fire opening and a decorative border around the top of the arch. The top of the arch has a pretty motif and there is a similar design within the fire opening, above the fire back. The hob grate has the traditional warming plates at the back of the fire opening but these are quite slim. The hob grate has retained the original front bars with a decorative finial below them. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a nice finish. The back of the hob grate has a model number but the fire pre- dates the system that was introduced to date cast iron fires. The hob grate has sustained some damage that has been professionally repaired and the top lid was missing and has been replaced with a non-removeable, fixed, lid and therefore the hob grate is now for DECORATIVE PURPOSES ONLY. The hob grate had some damage to one leg and has been professionally repaired with heavy duty straps. The crack can be seen from the front. The fire back has damage from rusting and this has also been secured with brackets and filler. There is a break to the top of the fire where it meets the fixed top plate. There are some small knocks to the fire. The back has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The hob grate is a wonderful example of Georgian design and is of a nice size for a bedroom or smaller reception room. The hob grate is the perfect item for adding decorative period design to a home.
