A reclaimed, antique, cast iron and brass fire insert. The insert has a pretty design with an attractive brass smoke hood featuring Adam style designs with bows, a swag and a medallion. The cast iron insert has an unusual design with an open front with curved sides and one bar at the front of the fire opening with decorative brass finials. The insert has a grill and ashpan. The iron has been blacked and polished. The back of the fire insert has a registered design number that is now unreadable but the insert is likely to date to the late Victorian or early Edwardian period. The fire insert is in reclaimed antique condition with some signs of age and wear. The concrete fire back has deep cracks and knocks but it is stable. The cast iron has some small knocks and casting marks. The brass hood has some dents, slight tarnish and some scratches. The brass finials have some tarnish. The back of the insert has surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire insert has a lovely design that would suit many interiors and would be a nice period item for adding character to a fireplace.
