Dimensions:
An elegant, reclaimed, tiled cast iron fire insert dating to C.1900. The insert has a very nice appearance with an ornate design featuring sun rays above the arched fire opening and above this is a very pretty pattern with flowers and acanthus leaves. The outer edges of the fire insert have a repeating border with flowers, leaves and fluting. On either side of the fire opening there are highly decorative antique tiles, possibly the fires original tiles, in brown and cream. The fire insert is of a nice size, ideal for a reception room or larger bedroom. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a nice finish. There insert has some holes for fixing screws. The back has a registered design number but unfortunately it is now unreadable. The fire insert is in solid condition with some signs of age and some slight damage, as expected of reclaimed antiques. The iron has some knocks and casting marks. The left hand fire cheek, in the fire opening, has a bulge and crack and therefore the insert might be best suited for decorative use. Please contact us if you wish to discuss this. The top flap is a metal replacement for the original cast iron one. The fire brick has some small knocks and some of the putty can be seen. The tiles have some small knocks and chips and the glaze has crazing. The back has surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire insert is a beautiful reclaimed item and a great example of late Victorian design. The fire insert would be a fantastic feature for a fireplace.
