A very pretty, original, late Georgian hob grate fire insert. The hob grate has an ornate design with arched fire opening and a decorative egg and dart border around the top of the arch. There is a pretty motif at the back of the fire, featuring acanthus leaves and there are pretty flowers on either side of the fire opening and pretty designs on the legs. The fire retains it front bars with decorative final. The hob grate has the traditional warming plates on either side of the fire opening. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a nice finish. The hob grate is in very good condition but has had some quality repairs to damage. The fire brick has been replaced with a new cast iron fire plate that has metal strips to hold it in place. These have been sprayed black but can be seen when looking at the fire opening. There are some gaps between the metal back and the fire and you will need a fitter to seal the gaps if you are going to use the hob grate for burning. There are some small knocks and chips, especially to the top edge of the fire. The back of the hob grate has a crack (picture 12) and there are some new screws and bolts. The back of the hob grate has surface rust, as expected. The inside edges of the arched opening have some casting marks and roughness. Please see pictures for condition details. The hob grate is a wonderful example of Georgian design and is of a nice size for a reception room or larger bedroom. The hob grate is the perfect item for adding decorative period design to a home.
