A reclaimed antique cast iron tiled fire insert, likely to date to C.1900. The insert has a traditional Art Nouveau appearance with a decorative border with pretty leaf design in the top corners. The fire insert has decorative smoke hood with shaped edge and poppy design. The fire has free standing front bars and an ashpan cover. The fire insert has been fitted with unused reproduction Art Nouveau green tiles with a very pretty design, featuring flowers in the Art Nouveau style. The tiles are currently wedged in and if you would like to keep the tiles we will use plaster of paris to secure them. You could purchase other tiles and change them if you prefer. Please let us know if you wish to change the tiles and we will not secure them in place.
The fire insert is in good reclaimed condition with some signs of wear and use. The fire insert has some small casting marks and some scratches. The fire brick has cracks and breaks but it is stable. There are some gaps at the top of the brick and it will need to be sealed by your fire fitter if you are to use the fire for burning. There is a thin gap on the left hand side of the smoke hood which may also need to be sealed. The back has surface rust, as expected. The tiles have some crazing to the glaze. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire insert has a nice design and is ideal for a period home.
