From Arc Reclamation.
A very pretty, petite, reclaimed cast iron fire insert dating to the mid Victorian period. PLEASE NOTE: The listing is for the cast iron fire insert ONLY. The last picture shows the insert paired with a pine fire surround. The surround is an ideal fit for the insert but is SOLD SEPERATELY and is at AN EXTRA COST. Please see our listing reference FS0265 for details.
The insert has a lovely design, typical of the era, with a decorative border around the arched opening and a leaf pattern at the top of the border. The top plate has a pretty raised pattern and the fire insert retains the original front bars. The fire insert is of a petite size, ideal for decorative purposes in a bedroom or for a smaller reception room. The iron has been blacked and polished and the fire insert has a good finish. The back of the fire insert has a registered design kite number. The lettering is difficult to read but we believe the fire insert either dates to 1876 or 1878. The fire insert is in good reclaimed condition with some signs of age. The iron has some small scuffs, casting marks and pitting. The fire brick has some wear and there are some thin gaps around it. The back of the insert has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire has a very nice design which is delicate and pretty, suiting many interiors. The fire insert would be a lovely period item for adding character to a fireplace.
