Code: FI0086
Dimensions:
A very elegant reclaimed antique tiled cast iron fire insert, likely to date to C.1890-1900. The cast iron insert has a very nice appearance with a border surrounding the fire opening with flowers and sun rays. The insert has an ornate smoke hood with a large urn, swags and flowers, in the Adam style. The insert has retained its original front bars with decorative design. The cast iron has been blacked and polished and it has a nice finish. The fire has been fitted with attractive green tiles, on either side of the fire opening. There are smaller and larger tiles that form a "brick style" design.
The fire insert is in good solid condition with some signs of age and some damage to the tiles, as expected of reclaimed antiques. The iron has some knocks, pitting and casting marks. The fire brick has some knocks and chips and new putty can be seen at the sides. The tiles have some scuffs, dark stains, knocks and chips and there are breaks to some of the smaller top tiles. The back has surface rust and at the back of the fire, where the tiles are secured, there is residue concrete. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire insert has a very pretty design and it would add great period character to a fireplace.
