An elegant reclaimed cast iron arched fire insert, likely to date to the late Georgian or early Victorian period. The bedroom insert has a pretty design, typical of the era, with an arched opening with a repeated border with flowers in circular designs. The insert retains its curved front bars with decorative detail in the centre of the middle bar and the fire brick has a fluted and reeded design. The iron has been blacked and polished and the insert has a nice finish. PLEASE NOTE: The insert has was missing the top plate and a wooden one has been made for it and therefore the fire insert CANNOT be used and is currently for decorative use only. If you wish to use the insert we could make a metal top plate for an extra charge, please contact us for details.
PLEASE NOTE: The last picture shows the insert paired with an oak fire surround. The surround is NOT INCLUDED in the listing price of £345 for the cast iron insert and is AVAILABLE SEPERATELY and PRICED SEPERATELY. Please see our reference FS0487 for details of the surround and please be aware it is available on a first come first served basis.
The fire insert is in very good solid condition with some small signs of its considerable age, as expected. The iron has some casting marks and pitting. The sealant around the top plate can be seen. The back has some surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire insert could be paired with a wooden surround and its pretty period appearance makes it ideal for adding character to a fireplace.
