SOLD

A very pretty early Victorian cast iron hobgrate fire insert and pine fire surround, ideal for a bedroom or reception room. The hobgrate has a lovely design with acanthus leaves and scrolls around the arched fire opening and has curved front bars that have a pretty motif below. There is decoration above the concrete fire back and down the legs. The sides of the fire opening have small warming plates, traditional for the period, that were used for cups and glasses. The iron has been blacked and the back of the fire has a registered design kite mark dating the fire to April 20th 1846. The insert is paired with an original Victorian pine fire surround. The surround has a classic design with a raised border around the fire opening. The pine is stripped and ready for finishing by purchaser with a wax, oil or paint. The surround and hobgrate are antique and have some signs of wear as expected of reclaimed items. The fire has no top plate but we can quote to make a replacement metal opening and closing plate, please contact us for details. If the fire is to be used for decorative purposes only we can make a ply wood plate that will be sprayed black, for no extra charge. Please contact us at time of purchase if you would like a ply plate. There are some light scratches and marks to the iron and the back has surface rust as expected. The pine surround has some small holes and some surface cracks. The hobgrate is a lovely example of early Victorian design and the insert and surround have a fantastic look that is ideal for a period property, adding character and charm to a home.
