A very beautiful and rare carved pine fire surround. The fire is very ornate with bollection moulding and fantastic revival acanthus leaf designs that stand in relief. The fire is deep and very well made and the pine has been stripped to bare wood and a wax finish applied. The pine has a very nice grain that compliments the carving. The fire has three pale marble strips that slot in to the back of the inner edge of the fire opening to give an attractive finish. The marble is removable and does not need to be attached if preferred, we have photographed the surround with and without it. The fire is ideal for surrounding a fire basket or wood burner and has a great deal of character. The surround is antique and dates to either the late Victorian period or early 20th Century. The fire is solid and usable but has some slight signs of wear due to age. There are some large surface splits / cracks to both sides of the surround but they do not affect the structural integrity of the fire, please see pictures for details. Some small scratches and marks can be seen in the wood and some small chips, mainly to the side edges. There is a split to one of the pine supports at the back but does not affect the fires strength. There are some light colour discrepancies in the wood and some very small patch repairs. There are a very few small chips to the marble strips. The fire surround is of a very fine quality and has a wonderful elegant look. The fire is a rare and beautifully carved piece that would look fantastic in a home.
