A highly decorative Victorian cast iron fire surround with an attractive oak mantel that is the ideal size for a bedroom or small reception room. The body of the fire has a pretty design, typical of the era, with leaves and fan style detailing. The legs have a very attractive column style design with decorative feet and tops. There are intricate borders surrounding the arched fire opening. The iron has been burnished and lacquered giving a lovely silvery finish. The original damaged mantel has been replaced with a beautiful waxed oak mantel. The fire has the original fixing lugs on either side that allow the fire to be secured to the wall. The fire surround is designed to be paired with a fire basket and sits around the fire opening or can be used for decorative use in a bedroom. The back of the fire looks to have had an RD number but it has become unreadable. The fire likely dates to C.1890.  The oak mantel has an attractive grain and is a solid and quality piece of timber. The pairing of cast iron with oak gives the fire a unique and interesting look that would fit with period, country or rustic properties. The fire is antique and therefore has some slight signs of age and wear. The front of the fire has some very small scratches, marks and pitting. Some small casting holes can be seen under the decorative border on the cross bar. The mantel has some small scratches and a nail hole. The back has surface rust as expected. The fire surround is a beautiful item that would add great character to a home and paired with a fire basket would complete a hearth.
