A very beautiful, large, late Victorian cast iron fire surround of an ideal size for a living room or dining room. The fire has a fantastic design with scrolls and leaves and delicate border detailing on the legs. The mantel has a heavy border around the front edge. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a lovely finish. The surround has a registered design number, RD312961, dating the fire to 1898. The surround can be paired with a fire basket or wood burner. The original lugs are present on each side of the fire. The fire surround is in good condition but has had some repaired damage. The fire suffered a large break but has been professionally welded and repaired and there is a large brace at the back of the fire. The fire is solid and useable. One corner of the mantel has lifted slightly. There are some small scratches and casting marks. The back has surface rust as expected. The fire surround's ornate, large, and elegant style would make it ideal for a period home and is a desirable and interesting item.
