A large, handsome, cast iron fire surround of an ideal size for a living room or dining room. The fire is made by the renowned Falkirk foundry. The fire has a fantastic design with a classical style column design with fluted legs and smaller, column style, fluted detailing on the cross bar. The legs have an attractive shape and the mantel has a moulded edge. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a good colour and finish. The surround can be paired with a fire basket or wood burner. The original fixing lugs are present on each side of the fire. The back of the fire has the foundry mark "Falkirk" and a registered design number, however the 1st number has been covered in fixing concrete and therefore cannot be dated. The fire is likely to be late Victorian. The fire surround is in very good condition but is antique and therefore has some slight signs of use and wear. There are some casting marks, pitting and some small marks, scratches and scuffs. The mantel has some uneven edges. The back has surface rust as expected. The fire surround's elegant style would make it ideal for a period home and is a desirable and interesting item.
