A very large and heavy reclaimed cast iron fire surround dating to C.1900. The fire has a classic design, typical of the era, with decorative crossbar and a large decorative central piece with shaped edge. The fire opening has a plain moulded border and heavy feet that stand proud of the fire. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a very fine finish. The fire has a fixing lug on each side, under the mantel, and two at the back of the mantel that fit into the wall. The surround is of a perfect size for a large living or dining room and can be paired with a wood burner or fire basket or it could be used for decorative purposes. The fire is extremely heavy and the mantel is double skinned. It is recommended that the surround and mantel are transported separately due to weight. Please contact us if you wish to discuss collection. The fire is a reclaimed antique and has some slight wear and damage. The mantel has some repaired damage, please see pictures for details. There are some scratches, casting marks and pitting, especially to the mantel. Some small scuffs and knocks. The back of the fire has surface rust as expected. The fire surround has a classic and pretty style that would be suited to both period and modern properties and is of a great size, ideal for adding character and charm to a home.
