A large and elegant cast iron fire surround likely to date to the late Victorian period. The fire has an ornate Adam style design, typical of the era, with decorative swags under the mantel. The legs are a particular feature of the fire with large urns and flowers and it has wide feet. The mantel has a stepped design. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a very fine finish. The fire has a fixing lug on each side, under the mantel, to allow the fire to be fixed to the wall. The surround is of a perfect size for a living or dining room and can be paired with a wood burner or fire basket or it could be used for decorative purposes. The fire is a reclaimed antique and has some slight wear and damage. The right hand foot (when facing the fire) does have a crack but the fire is solid and stable. The crossbar has some deep casting marks and there are some small marks and scratches to the front face of the fire. The back has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround has a fantastic design that is ideal for a period home. The fire is very finely cast and has an abundance of character and period charm.
