A large and elegant cast iron fire surround likely to date to the Edwardian period. The fire has a very ornate design with a large central "eye" on the crossbar. The eye is surrounded by acanthus leaves and fruit. The fire has heavy border detailing and there are attractive flowers that are repeated under the mantel. The legs have a further flower design and crossed detailing. The mantel has curved edges and delicate border. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a very fine finish. The fire has a heavy fixing lug on each side, under the mantel, to allow the fire to be fixed to the wall. The surround is of a perfect size for a living or dining room and can be paired with a wood burner or fire basket or it could be used for decorative purposes. The fire is a reclaimed antique and has some slight wear and damage. There is a crack on the right hand side of the crossbar but the structural integrity of the fire is not affected and the fire is solid and stable. The fire has some casting marks and there are some small marks and scratches to the front face of the fire. The back has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround has a fantastic design that is ideal for a period home. The fire is very finely cast and has an abundance of character and period charm.
