Dimensions:
A very tall, elegant, cast iron fire surround dating to circa 1900. The fire has an ornate design, typical of the era, with egg and dart detailing along the crossbar. The sides of the crossbar have pretty scrolls and curved sides. The mantel has a moulded edge and there is a concave border around the fire opening. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a very fine finish. The fire has a fixing lug on each side, under the mantel, to allow the fire to be fixed to the wall. The surround is unusually tall and is ideal for a living or dining room and can be paired with a wood burner or fire basket or it could be used for decorative purposes. The fire is a reclaimed antique and has some slight wear and damage. The back of the mantel has a crack but it is solid and stable. There are some small marks and scratches to the front face of the fire and some further scratches to the top of the mantel. Some small casting marks can be seen. The back has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround has a very attractive and classic design that is ideal for a period home. The fire is very finely cast and its handsome appearance and tall size will provide an abundance of charm and style within a home.
