A very large painted cast iron fire surround likely to date to C.1900-1910. The fire surround has a handsome appearance with fantastic period features and is heavy and well made. The fire has dentil detailing under the mantel and elegant scrolling leaves on either side of the shaped crossbar. The legs have a column style design and there is a border around the opening. The cast iron has been painted white and is in reasonable condition but purchaser may wish to re-paint the surround to suit. The fire has retained its fixing lugs on either side of the crossbar and there are lugs at the back of the mantel for inserting in to the wall. The fire surround is of a substantial size and would be suited to a living room or dining room and could be paired with a large fire basket. The fire surround is in good condition with some signs of age and wear, as excepted of reclaimed antique items. The surround has some marks and chips to the paint. There are some small knocks to the fire. The mantel has a large scratch or perhaps a repaired crack but it is solid and stable. A small patch of surface rust can be seen on the mantel and on the lugs at the back of the mantel. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround has a fantastic period appearance and would make a wonderful statement within the home.
