A handsome, reclaimed, large cast iron fire surround, C.1900. The surround is ideal for pairing with a wood burner or fire basket and is suited to a living or dining room. The fire surround has a Georgian style appearance with a large raised and fielded panel in the centre of the crossbar. The sides of the crossbar have a cut out scrolling design and there is an ornate repeating border under the mantel. The surround has a thick border that runs along the crossbar and down the legs. The cast iron has been blacked and polished and has a good colour and finish. The surround has two fixing lugs, one on each side, under the mantel. The fire surround is in good reclaimed condition with some slight signs of age, as expected of antique items. There are some small casting marks, scratches and pitting. There is a larger casting line on the right hand side of the crossbar. There are some small knocks and the mantel front edge has some very slight unevenness. The back of the surround has some surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround has a very elegant appearance that is ideal for a period property and would finish a fireplace nicely, adding character and charm.
