A stunning and very elegant, reclaimed, Victorian cast iron fire surround made by the renowned Coalbrookdale Foundry. The surround is likely to date to the mid 1800s and has an incredibly ornate appearance. The cross bar has a repeating design with delicate flowers and thin borders. The fire surround has columns that run down the legs, in relief, with acanthus leaves, swags, reeding and twists, in a classical style. The fire opening has a decorative boarder surrounding it. The original mantel was broken and has been replaced with a very high quality oak mantel. The oak has been sprayed black and it has stepped detailing to the front edge and sides. The left hand side of the fire has a fixing lug with a pretty flower design but please note the right hand lug has been broken off. The cast iron has been blacked and polished and it has a quality finish. The surround is of a very large size and is ideal for a living or dining room and could be paired with a large cast iron fire basket or for decorative use. The fire surround is in good antique condition with some small signs of use and age, as expected. The mantel has some small knocks and a cut in the wood on the front edge. The fire surround has some small casting marks, pitting and scratches. The back has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is a truly fantastic example of Victorian design and it would make a superb show piece within the home.
