Code: FS0169
Dimensions:
An attractive, reclaimed, Edwardian oak fire surround with mirror dating to C.1905. The tall surround is of a good quality and has a style typical of the era. The surround has fine detailing including dentil moulding under the mantel and chamfered front edges. A particular feature of the fire surround is the cross bar which has two raised and fielded panels and a centre panel fitted with mirror glass. There is a shelf with carved corbels under the paneled cross bar. The oak has been varnished and has a dark tone but it does have fading and scratches and purchaser may wish to strip and re-finish the fire to suit. The fire surround is designed to be paired with a cast iron insert and we have photographed it with an insert for illustrative purposes. Please note the cast insert is NOT INCULDED and is SOLD SEPARATELY. Please contact us or see reference FI0050 for details regarding the insert. The surround is in good reclaimed condition with some signs of wear and slight damage, as expected of antique items. The surround has some marks, small holes, scratches and some surface splits but the fire surround is stable and useable. Some of the joints have become slightly separated, especially the mouldings at the top of the feet and around the fire opening. The sides of the fire have some knocks, uneven areas and slight damage. There are some knocks to the mantel edge and to the shelf. Please see pictures for condition details. The surround has a fantastic period appearance, typical of Edwardian design and would make a lovely statement piece within the home.
