A reclaimed, antique, cast iron fire surround likely to date to C.1890. The fire surround has a simple and traditional period design with Adam style detailing along the cross bar featuring swags, bows and an oval medallion. The mantel has a decorative border around the edge. The fire surround has been painted white but it has marks, chipping and stains. We can strip the surround for an extra £100 and apply a black fire paint for an extra £60 once stripped, to give the fire a traditional black finish. Please contact us before purchase if you would like this service and to discuss the process. The fire surround could be used to frame a wood burner or cast iron fire basket or used for decorative purposes. The surround is in solid antique condition with some signs of age and wear, as expected. The back of the fire surround has some surface rust. There is some surface rust that is visible through the paint and there are stains from rust on the paint. The paint has stains, chips and marks. The iron has some small knocks and wear from use. The mantel is slightly loose when attached to the surround but this should not be a problem once the surround is fixed to a wall securely. Please see pictures for condition details. The surround has a nice period appearance and its simple and classic design would make it suited to both period and modern properties.
