A very handsome, reclaimed, mahogany fire surround likely to date to C.1890-1900. The surround is of a good size for a living or dining room and has a simple yet stylish design that would be ideal both period and modern properties, with a gently curving crossbar and chunky feet. The surround could be paired with a cast iron fire basket or perhaps used for decorative purposes. The mahogany has been French polished and has a rich, deep colour and high shine finish. The surround does have some slight signs of age and damage, as expected of antique items. The fire surround has some small knocks and scratches from use. The back corners of the mantel have some slight damage. The right hand foot has had a replacement moulding and the piece does not have a French polish finish and is therefore a paler colour. The mantel has some circular marks and a line mark at the back left from its original fitting. There are some scratches to the crossbar and some areas where the polished finish has worn away. The feet have some scuffs. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is of a fine quality and has elegant styling that would enhance a fireplace and would make a fantastic showpiece in a home.
